NSSN Data Working Group inaugural meeting and pitchfest
Hosted by the NSW Smart Sensing Network (NSSN) and sponsored by Klarrio, the NSSN Data Working Group inaugural gathering event took place online on 28 September 2020.
NSSN Co-Director Professor Benjamin Eggleton opened the event and said the NSSN Data Working Group will transform complex data and AI problems into tangible solutions for industry and government partners.
“I am sure the NSSN Data Working Group will grow as a think tank and one-stop hub of smart sensing data solutions,” said Professor Eggleton.
NSSN Data and Built Environment Theme Leader Dr Zhitao Xiong said the NSSN Data Working Group aims to create a space for ongoing R&D and collaboration.
“We would like to facilitate the exchange of resources between academia, industry and government,” Dr Xiong said.
As part of the event, researchers from NSSN Data Working Group participated in a pitchfest sponsored by Klarrio. The Pitchfest was aimed at finding solutions for online misinformation around major events such as the Black Summer bushfires and the COVID-19 pandemic.
Teams from the Western Sydney University, the University of Technology Sydney (UTS), and Macquarie University participated in the pitchfest. The winning team was selected by four judges from Klarrio, NSW Health and the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT).
Klarrio Asia Pacific Co-Founder and CEO Wagdy Samir opened the award ceremony and announced the winners.
A team of researchers led by Dr Marian-Andrei Rizoiu from the UTS Data Science Institute won $1,000 as a prize and will have the opportunity to collaborate with Klarrio to develop the proposed solution further.
The NSSN Data Working Group is a group of academics and researchers working in Data and Artificial Intelligence (Al) across NSSN eight member universities.
