Printed solar offers new opportunities

Traditionally, printing has been viewed as just patterning surfaces, such as paper, card and plastic, with pictures and words. However, the discovery and development of semiconducting inks means that we can now create electronic devices, such as solar panels, using commercial-scale printing.

The Centre for Organic Electronics (COE) at the University of Newcastle has been working on the design, fabrication and characterisation of large scale printed solar panels for many years; translating the technology from the benchtop to the rooftop.
