NSW consultancy offers tailored tech solutions to Aussie businesses
PEGRAS Asia Pacific, a technical solutions consulting company based in NSW, is leading the way in solving industrial challenges by introducing new technological solutions to local manufacturers.
With a network of consultants based in Australia, Europe and Asia, PEGRAS has provided solutions for various companies, including Audi, BioOil, Continental, Siemens, and TOYO.
PEGRAS Managing Partner Dr Stephanus Peters says working with PEGRAS often leads to new innovations for clients.
“We work differently from most consultant companies, solving the problems from the ‘bottom up’,” Dr Peters says. “Our international network helps to find the right solution for every problem.”
The Consultancy operates across various industries from renewable energy and recycling technologies to automatisation and print manufacturing.
Dr Peters believes working with PEGRAS is beneficial for both large companies with complex problems, and small to medium-sized enterprises (SMEs).
“Many SMEs lack the resources to generate the innovations and technologies required to compete with global competitors,” says Dr Peters. “We could help in this space and provide resources and technologies.”
Director and Technology Consultant at PEGRAS Asia Pacific Mr Ian Byrne says businesses would benefit from expanding their research and development efforts as these investments amplify the local production effectiveness.
“COVID-19 has identified significant opportunities for Australian manufacturers to expand their operations and realise the benefits of more local production and self-reliance,” Mr Byrne says.
“Shifting company cultures to engage with local suppliers of research innovation, such as the University sector is vital. Advanced knowledge and resources are readily available at universities, but are currently under-utilised.
“To get there, we require the expansion of interface services provided by organisations such as the NSW Smart Sensing Network (NSSN) and PEGRAS.”
The NSSN, a consortium of eight leading universities, and PEGRAS Asia Pacific are collaborating with key industry partners to enhance Australia’s plastic recycling capability.
The industry-led project involves prominent researchers from UNSW, University of Sydney and University of Technology Sydney (UTS) aiming to solve the challenge of removing label adhesives from milk bottles in the recycling wash process.
“The current value of the project is $1.5 million, and the opportunity for industry savings is in the 10’s of millions with improved processes and expanded processing,” says Mr Byrne. “The outcome helps both the Label industry as well as the Dairy industry.”
The partnership received $650,000 in federal funding through a Cooperative Research Centre Project (CRC-P) grant.
Mr Byrne says the experience of developing this CRC-P funded project has been an enlightening journey for PEGRAS.
“The engagement with the NSSN has been a unique experience for us and has opened up a whole new world of technology horizons and problem-solving opportunities.
“The NSSN was formed on the premise that this type of research and industry engagement was necessary, and from our current experience, we would describe it as ‘vital’.
“Using this approach at PEGRAS and in partnership with the NSSN we are well on the way to provide a solution to an intractable problem that has plagued the recycling industry globally for the past 20 years.”
