NSW Sensing Industry Connect comes to the Hunter Innovation Festival 2021

Co-hosted by the NSW Smart Sensing Network (NSSN) and the University of Newcastle, the next event in the NSW Sensing Industry Connect series takes place on 4 May 2021 at the University of Newcastle Industry Development Centre.

An official part of the 2021 Hunter Innovation Festival, the event brings together the NSW sensing industry - the designers, developers, manufacturers and deployers of sensors.

NSSN COO Mr Nicholas Haskins said the event is a place for anyone working in smart sensing or related industries to come together in a casual, relaxed atmosphere to meet like-minded colleagues.

“We are delighted to be teaming up with the Hunter Innovation Festival because innovation is absolutely at the heart of what we do,” Mr Haskins said. “We also know that the Hunter region is alive with great ideas and an entrepreneurial spirit.”

Launched by the NSSN in 2020, the NSW Sensing Industry Connect is a series of events aimed at building a connected community of entrepreneurs, researchers and innovators in the sensing technology industry.

“Previous events have been hosted at the University of Sydney and Macquarie University, and we are excited to be bringing the event to Newcastle for the first time.

“We hope to attract industry and university partners from across the Newcastle and Hunter region.

The event includes short keynote addresses by experts including Ms Joanne Wust, CEO at 4Tel and Professor Alan Broadfoot, Executive Director at the Newcastle Institute for Energy and Resources (NIER).

The NSSN is a consortium of eight leading universities across NSW and the ACT that brings together academia, industry and government to develop smart sensing solutions for complex challenges.

A member of the NSSN, the University of Newcastle is the innovation powerhouse of NSW’s Hunter region. The University of Newcastle is committed to working collaboratively with industry, government and the community to generate new knowledge and translate innovative ideas into real benefits to society.

The University has a reputation for challenging standard practice and received wisdom, particularly in the fields of engineering, energy and resources, and health and medicine.
