Announcement of new Board Members
The NSW Smart Sensing Network (NSSN) is thrilled to announce the appointment of three new members to its Board effective 1 July 2021.
Joining the NSSN Board are Dr Jill Freyne, Deputy Research Director, Australian e-Health Research Centre, CSIRO; Mr Ian Oppermann, NSW Chief Data Scientist; and Ms Sally-Ann Williams, CEO, Cicada Innovations. The new members will serve a two-year term.
NSSN Board Chair Dr Susan Pond AM said: "I'm pleased to welcome Jill, Ian, and Sally-Ann to NSSN Board. They bring a wealth of leadership, policy, and industry experience to the Board and will add significant strength to the Network as we embark on our Strategic Plan 2021-24."
Dr Jill Freyne is the Deputy Research Director of the Australian eHealth Research Center (AEHRC) at CSIRO. The AEHRC is the leading national research facility applying information and communication technology to improve health services and clinical treatment for Australians. Jill has significant research experience in the development and validation of digital health services, lifestyle interventions, and recommender systems. Jill has worked with Australian and International industry partners to devise engaging and sustainable health technology solutions, aimed specifically at encouraging individuals to change the way that they engage with their health.
Dr Ian Oppermann is the NSW Government's Chief Data Scientist working within the Department of Customer Service. He is also an Industry Professor at the University of Technology Sydney (UTS). From 2015 to 2019, Ian was also the CEO of the NSW Data Analytics Centre (DAC). Ian is considered a thought leader in the area of the Digital Economy and is a regular speaker on "Big Data", broadband enabled services and the impact of technology on society.
As the CEO of Cicada Innovations, Sally-Ann leads Australia's pioneering deep tech incubator building companies solving the world's most pressing problems through science & engineering. Cicada Innovations has nurtured hundreds of visionary deep tech innovators to validate, commercialise and scale high impact technologies globally across MedTech, HealthTech, AgTech, FoodTech, Clean Energy, AI, Manufacturing 4.0 and more. Prior to joining Cicada Innovations, she spent over 12 years at Google as an Executive Program Manager on the engineering team leading work on R&D collaboration.
The NSSN is grateful for outstanding contributions made to the Network by Dr Marlene Kanga AM, Mr Peter Runcie, and Dr Paul Scully-Power AM, who have completed their terms on the Board. Dr Paul Scully-Power AM stays on with the Network as NSSN Special Envoy for Space & Defence.
