Announcement of New Board Chair and Board Members
The NSW Smart Sensing Network (NSSN) is delighted to announce the appointment of a new Board Chair and two new Board Members effective 1 July 2022.
Ms Jo White, Director of Science, Education and Conservation at the Royal Botanic Gardens and Domain Trust, takes up the role of Board Chair, succeeding NSSN Foundation Chair Dr Susan Pond AM.
Dr Pond congratulated Ms White on the new appointment noting Ms White’s proven experience in strategy and executive leadership in dynamic government environments and leading science and aligning it with business needs.
Ms White steps up to the Chair role after four years as a Board member, positioning her uniquely to drive the NSSN mission and vision forward.
“It is my great privilege to be the incoming Chair of the NSW Smart Sensing Network Board, and an honour to be working with the Co-Directors, Board members and all the exceptionally talented and committed individuals who are the NSSN,” said Ms White.
“Susan has provided excellent leadership of the NSSN and she leaves the Network in a very strong position. The future outlook of the Network is very positive and we have a strong role to play in delivering the recently released NSW Research and Development 20-year Road Map. Our vision is NSW is recognised as a global leader in the smart sensing ecosystem.”
As she steps down from her role as Foundation Chair of the NSSN Board, Dr Pond reflected on the critical role she played in the early development of the Network.
“From the nucleus of an idea six years ago, we have built an innovation network that couples the ideas and intellectual assets in our universities with the needs of external partners for smart sensing solutions in their marketplace,” said Dr Pond.
“We have significantly increased the competitive strength of NSW in smart sensing by attracting new investment, new companies, and new R&D across a wide range of industries and sectors.”
NSSN Co-Directors Prof. Benjamin Eggleton and Prof. Julien Epps welcomed the new appointments and expressed gratitude for Dr Pond’s invaluable contributions to the Network’s leadership.
“Susan’s leadership, expertise and guidance has played an integral role in establishing NSSN’s footing in NSW. She is an influential scientist with an extensive network from across academia, government, and business. As she moves on to focus on roles as President of the Royal Society of NSW and Board member of the Sydney Quantum Academy, we are grateful for the central role Susan has played in the NSSN.”
Joining the NSSN Board as new members are Dr Diana Day FAICD and Fiona Rankin GAICD, both experienced Board Directors who bring a wealth of technology experience and leadership to the Board.
The NSSN applauds the outstanding contributions made to the Network by Mr Nick Campbell, who completes his term on the Board in June 2022.
Dr Pond will hand over the Board Chair position to Ms White at the NSSN 6th Birthday Reception taking place this evening at the Museum of Contemporary Arts in Sydney.
