Researchers and industry will present their work and how they are commercialising the technology into cutting edge tools and applications.
Lights Collide provides an invaluable opportunity to learn about:

Speakers will include:
Tom Hu, Miriad Technologies – Miriad Technologies specialise in the generation and detection of mid-infrared light. Using ultrafast infrared lasers, their technology is used to understand the chemical make-up of our environment - whether it be in food contaminants, hazardous chemicals or other industries.
Dr Robert Acres, ANSTO – Synchrotron light is unique in its intensity and can be generated across the range of the electromagnetic spectrum. Discover how the Australian Synchrotron and the Australian Centre for Neutron Scattering are working with industry and researchers to develop applications of synchrotron light.
Michael Withford, Modular Photonics – Helping the internet grow through the power of light! Leading optics and telecommunications experts, Modular Photonics, are using state-of-the-art glass and micro-chip fabrication to provide solutions that increase the capacity of fibre optic cable. Learn how they are improving interactive learning in local schools, with substantial cost savings, by controlling the light in optical fibre in new ways.
Mohsen Rahmani, Australian National University – Find out how an ultra-thin surface of various sub-wavelength nanostructures can offer exciting applications ranging from night vision technology to flat optics, and ultra-sensitive bio-chemical and gas detection.
Neil Carmody, Australian Department of Defence – This talk will look at the ways industry can get involved in the directed energy scene, developing cutting edge equipment for civil and military law enforcement.From lenses to antennae, free space channels to rare-earth doped fibres, the directed energy weapon field has some interesting areas of science and technology.
