The NSSN welcomes back the University of Wollongong

The NSW Smart Sensing Network (NSSN) has welcomed back the University of Wollongong (UOW) as its ninth member in November 2022, joining a partnership of the top universities in NSW and the ACT.

UOW is among the world's top 200 universities, including being 185th in the world and 10th in Australia in the QS World University Rankings 2023, and 24th in the world in the Times Higher Education Young University Rankings 2021.

NSSN Co-Directors Professor Benjamin Eggleton and Professor Julien Epps welcomed back the UOW to the network, recognising the university’s excellence in strategically important research.

"We are excited to welcome back the University of Wollongong as a member, deepening our partnership with some of the best universities in Australia.

“The University of Wollongong’s expertise, particularly in areas like MedTech and Smart Cities, will accelerate our smart sensing research translation and commercialisation in those fields.”

A Memorandum of Understanding was signed by the University of Wollongong Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Research and Innovation) Professor David Currow confirming the UOW’s membership of the NSSN.

“We are delighted to be joining the NSW Smart Sensing Network and I am looking forward to following the progress of the many projects that will grow out of this collaboration,” said Prof. Currow.

“Smart sensing has a critical role to play in addressing many of the most pressing global challenges that we face, from climate change, sustainable communities and the transition to renewable energy, to delivering new digital health care solutions and smart aged care services.

“These are challenges that can only be met through collaboration and a combined effort, and one of the successes of the NSSN has been its ability to bring government, industry and universities together to find innovative and effective solutions.

“The work our researchers – including those from UOW’s SMART Infrastructure Facility – are doing in the AI of Things, Industry 4.0 and Smart Cities will add value to, and benefit from, our membership in NSSN.”

The NSW Smart Sensing Network (NSSN), a consortium of nine leading universities across NSW and the ACT, is a not-for-profit innovation network that brings together universities, industry and government to translate world-class research into innovative smart sensing solutions that create value for NSW and beyond.
