Call for EOIs for NSSN Board Chair
The NSW Smart Sensing Network (NSSN) is seeking expressions of interest for the role of Board Chair to serve an initial term of two years (renewable for a further two years).
The NSSN brings together smart sensing expertise across universities, industry, and government to translate world-class research in smart sensing into innovative solutions that create value for the economy, environment and society of NSW and beyond.
Established in 2016 by the Office of the NSW Chief Scientist & Engineer, the NSSN is the first of the NSW Innovation Networks established to drive a culture of collaboration, translation and innovation across the state.
The network is a consortium of eight leading universities across NSW and the ACT, jointly headquartered at the University of Sydney and UNSW under the co-direction of two internationally recognised scientists, Professor Ben Eggleton and Professor Julien Epps.
The Board provides advice on the NSSN strategy, implementation plans and performance, and the national and international business context in which the network operates.
The NSSN Board consists of experienced leaders across the policy, research and industry spectrum:
2 x representatives from the industry sector
2 x representatives from the research sector
2 x representatives from the policy sector
Plus the following ex officio representatives:
2 x Co-Directors
Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Research Enterprise), University of Sydney
Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Research), UNSW
Representative of the NSW Office of the Chief Scientist & Engineer
Expressions of interest are sought from suitably qualified individuals that meet the following criteria:
Extensive industry experience in a sector related to smart sensing (e.g.: IoT, advanced manufacturing, telecommuncations, medtech, agtech, space, aviation, transport), with considerable experience in the NSW context
Experience serving as a Board Director or Board Chair
AICD Company Director accreditation or equivalent
Demonstrated understanding of the Australian university or R&D sector and the drivers of triple helix collaboration (university-industry-government)

Selection Process:
The Selection Committee will consider applicants against the objectives of the NSSN and the Board. We encourage applications from suitably qualified individuals who reflect the diversity of the NSW community. It is anticipated that successful applicants will be notified by mid-May and attend the Board meeting scheduled for 1 July 2022.
